About Us

The Philadelphia Conference is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of photojournalism. The organization is a showcase for photojournalists, a way of sharing ideas and expanding the boundaries of the craft. Through regular gatherings, photographer exhibitions, workshops, web interaction, competitions and email, the organization provides inspiration and support to the worldwide community of photographers.

The Philadelphia Conference is an advocate of quality photojournalism and an outlet for that work. The constantly changing website is a living gallery of the best of the members work. Based in Philadelphia – and with the intention of marketing the vast talent in the region – the organization is a global endeavor with members from around the world. Among those members are staff and freelance photographers, editors, educators, students, enthusiasts and others with a connection to the field.

The Philadelphia Conference is a grassroots, all-volunteer, non-profit organization, founded in May 2003, dedicated to the promotion and advancement of photojournalism. We meet in Philadelphia but invite participation from around the nation and the globe. We have hundreds of members online and have hosted dozens of popular local events.

Our membership is predominantly regional and includes staff photographers, photo editors and directors from every major Philadelphia daily newspaper, as well as wire service and weekly photographers and editors. Smaller communities are represented from throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, as well as a few national magazine photographers, and individual members from as far as Russia and China.

Early accomplishments included the facilitation of a $5,000 photojournalism scholarship, an online gallery of featured members and guests, and the development of annual and monthly digital competitions for members.

Next, we’re finally getting a little more 2.0 with this group and new group blog. Stay tuned for more information about participation soon.
